The pre-conference site visits to Water Treatment Plants (WTP) located in Cubbon Park and T.K. Halli, Bangalore, V-Valley Sewage Treatment Plant and Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Yelahanka, Bangalore are being planned on the first day of conference (13-12-09). The site visits will be organized in three batches:
1st batch - V-valley Sewage Treatment Plant and Waste water treatment plant, Cubbon park
2nd batch - Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Yelahanka and Cubbon park
3rd batch - Water Treatment Plant in Thorekadanahalli (TK halli)
The interested participants are invited to register for the pre-conference trip using separate registration form for the pre-conference trip. Each participant can opt for any of these three batches. There is no registration fee for the trip. To register, fill in and return the pre-conference registration form to the conference secretariat. Participants may write to conference secretariat to register their participation to the pre-conference trip. Very limited seats are available and hence participants are requested to register as early as possible. The registrations will be confirmed to the participants on first come, first in basis. The participants, who are opting for 1st and 2nd batch should be ready by 9 AM, while for the third batch, they should be ready by 7.30 AM on the day of trip.
For more information, participants may contact the conference secretariat. The registration form for pre-conference trip can be downloaded here.
Following are the information about the sites
This treatment plant was built to cater the Land Scape Irrigation needs of Cubbon Park. The capacity of the plant is 1.50 MLD and the Membrane Bio Reactor process is adopted in this plant. The treated effluent quality is excellent. The treated water is supplied to the lawns and plants with automated sprinkler system. The plant comprises of lift station, drum screens, detritor and aeration tank, followed by carbon adsorption unit. The system has facilities to handle residuals generated in the treatment process and disinfection. The schematic of the process showcases the fool proof Reuse Technology adoptable at any place. The Plant comprises of following units:
- Raw Sewage pumping station comprising of
- Wet well
- Raw sewage Submersible pumps
- Pretreatment comprising of
- Screen chamber with screens
- Degritting unit
- Biological Treatment (ULTRAFOR® Technology) comprising of
- Aeration tank with diffused aeration system
- Ultra filtration membrane filtration system
- Disinfect ion comprising of
- Chlorine contact tank
- Sludge Handling
- Biological sludge mechanical dewatering
- Emergency sludge drying beds
- 1.5 ML capacity Ground Level Reservoir (GLR)
- Treated water storage
- Inner and Outer compartments.
The V – Valley Sewage Treatment Plant has been constructed to treat the sewage generated in the western part of the city. The capacity of the treatment plant is 180 MLD. Out of this, 60 MLD is treated to tertiary level for reuse. The balance is treated up to secondary level and is let in to the valley. The tertiary treatment aims to nitrify the secondary treated wastewater and also to precipitate phosphorous, filter out fine and colloidal matter and thorough disinfection, to make reusable water safe for handling. The plant comprises of tower filter for nitrification, dense sludge process for enhanced coagulation, biological filter and treated water storage reservoir.
About 60 MLD secondary treated effluent is drawn for tertiary treatment. Densadeg - High Rate Clarifier
consisting
- Coagulation Zone (Flash mixer)
- Flocculation Zone
- Clarification Zone
- Thickening Zone
The effluent from the Clarifier flows into biological filtration unit FLOPAC consisting Pre Aeration Tank; FLOPAC Filters containing Biological Filters; Filtered Water Tank and Dirty Wash Water Tank. The filtered water is disinfected and stored in reservoir.
The capacity of the plant is 10 MLD. The tertiary treatment plant was built to supply treated water to International Airport. The plant has been designed for complete nitrification and removal of fine and colloidal particles from the wastewater. The residuals generated are well treated for safe disposal. About Rs.12 lakh revenue is being generated per month by the sale of the treated water.
The brief description of the process units is furnished below.
- Screening
- Grit and Grease units
- Primary settling
- Biological (Aeration) Tanks
- Secondary Clarifiers
- Sand Filters
- Disinfection
The Water Treatment Plant is located at Thorekadanahalli which is 85 km from Bangalore towards Malavalli via Kanakpura taluk. This plant was built under CWSS 4th stage phase-I under JIC funding. The plant capacity is 300 MLD and constructed by M/s ONDEO Degremont, France. The treatment plant is proposed with PULSATOR CLARIFIER which is one of the unique processes in the drinking water treatment technology. This unit operates under the principle of an up flow current through a suspended sludge blanket and is distinctive characteristics are the utilization of a pulsating. This clarifier is indeed a floculator clarifier. This does not need flocculation tanks upstream because both flocculation and settling are combined in the same apparatus. This unit operates under the principle of an up flow current through a suspended sludge blanket and is distinctive characteristics are the utilization of a pulsating, Intermittent upward current in the single flocculation sedimentation. The filters are of Aquazur-V-Filters suitable for high water depth. This plant has programmable logical controllers and SCADA system which is the first of its kind in Karnataka state. As for as the operation of this treatment plant is concerned, it can be operated and monitored by wire from a control room.
